Our disposable lives

Americans, and "civilized" people in general are moving more and more towards becoming a disposable society. As products get cheaper, and more available, people are more likely to throw away rather than repair. If this trend were limited to only material goods, we would have a large enough problem; but this practice is also being applied at an alarming rate to humans. People are becoming more and more disposable. It is getting easier to just "throw them away and get new ones." So in this second issue of Survival in the Wasteland we will be focusing on our disposable lives, and try to encourage one another to repair rather than throw away, especially with th' those people in our lives whom we'd rather just get rid of and get new ones to replace. We're all on this earth together, with just as great a capacity to love as to hate, and even greater i would say. The only way off this planet is death. No matter what you believe about life after death, we're all gonna die. I don't know about you, but i'd rather die in love and forgiveness than hatred and bitterness. Every choice we make affects us in one direction or the other, and not only only us, but those around us as well. Choices are important, we live with the consequences, and unless we forgive each other, and be forgiven, we will also die with the consequences. Sure people have wronged us. But when we forgive them we allow them to heal, and allow ourselves to heal as well. When we are healed, and only then will we be able to see clearly our own hearts. And then we realize that everyone is unique, no one is disposable. We're all on this same shipwrecked planet waiting to be rescued. And that's th' beauty of th' gospel. Th' gospel tells us that Jesus is alive, that he sees th' mess we've made of ourselves and our home, and that he will rescue us from ourselves and th' consequences of our destruction. A lot of people think that we can change th' world by ourselves. We can't. History is proof enough of that. Environmentalism cannot save us. Education cannot save us. War cannot save us. Christianity cannot save us. We cannot save us. Love can save us. God is love, and without love we are destructive creatures, but with love, nothing is impossible.
